Important Information
WARNING! Improper use of any trimmer/brushcutter can cause serious or fatal injury. Read, understand and follow all safety instructions in your instruction manual. To reduce the risk of injury from blade contact, circular saw blades may be used on FS brushcutters that have a limitstop, a bicycle handle and double shoulder harness and not on FS brushcutters with a "J" handle or loop handle. Other rigid blades may be used on FS brushcutters having a bicycle handle, a "J" handle or a loop handle equipped with a barrier bar. To reduce the risk of eye injury always wear proper eye protection. Always use the appropriate deflector for the type of cutting attachment, as explained in your instruction manual.
Note: STIHL recommends use of fuel with no more than 10% Ethanol content. Using fuel with greater than 10% Ethanol content may cause damage to your equipment and may void your STIHL warranty. Learn More…

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'd say it's a good product I bought a Still FS 55 trimmer in 1999 and am still using it. I have replaced the carburetor once and the gas line and filter a couple of times.. That thing just refuses to die!!I use it to trim some pretty rough stuff (not all of it is rough, but a lot is), and a lot of it.I do need the gas line replaced now, but other than that, it runs like a top! I don't think any other brand of trimmer could touch it. THANKS Stihl, for a real quality product!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is an excellent choice for a home owner. I have owned many other brands of home power tools over the years. Several years ago my leaf blower quit running and I made the decision to purchase a Stihl. It has turned out to be a great decision. When my trimmer quit running this year it was an easy choice to turn to a Stihl. It proved to be another great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Homeowner grade trimmer Purchased for my wife to prevent fights over our 22 year old Stihl FS85 trimmer. Bicycle handles and properly adjusted professional harness are the key to comfort and less fatigue to speed completion of large projects. Disappointed that this unit doesn’t have a provision for lubricating shaft or drive head.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Choice for a Home Owner Nice little machine! This unit is great, because it comes with “bicycle” handlebars, so all you have to do is purchase the “Forestry” harness, and your authorized STIHL dealer can sell you chisel tooth and scratcher blades. I have been able to use this for clearing thick brush, and soft wood/plants such as sumac up to 3” in diameter. Will probably buy a chain saw for anything bigger than that, but for now this machine is great for clearing my 2 acres in VT, and keeping everything around the house and stone walls in great shape! The auto-cut head that comes with it is junk! I ditched mine after it became tangled twice the first time I used it (yes, it was dealer installed and wrapped). Switched to the Duro-Cut 20-3 in (sold separately) and LOVE it! You can pop in a new pre-cut piece of trim string in under a second, instead of fooling around with the spool! If it came with the Duro-Cut, it would be 5 stars all day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well pleased, 5 star, with only one minor issue. I chose the 56 C-E specifically because of it's handle bar style grip and it's easy start design. My trimming involves a couple hours of work around fence posts, trees and tree stumps, some rocks and little sidewalk area. I also occasionally do some trimming on a small path I have cut through some wooded area of our property. So I really put the trimmer through some vigorous workout. My old trimmer was heavy and awkward to handle. It left me with aching wrists and forearms. This is why I wanted the handle bar style. After having used it now for several hours of trimming, I have only one complaint. Since this hangs by a strap and rest against your body, the plastic part of engine that extends up the shaft a little ways, rubbed a sore spot on the outside of my upper thigh. This was nothing major or anything that left a mark, it was just tender to the touch. I see that Stihl sells a strap that appears to have some protection in this area. I wish that they sold this trimmer with that style of strap. Other than that, all is 5 stars. Has all the power I need, did not wear out my wrists and arms, well balanced, easy to maneuver around objects, little vibration, not exceptionally loud, and extremely easy to start. I maintain over 5 acres of land and do a lot of walking while trimming both on flat land and hills, hence why the rubbing against my thigh is an issue. If you don't have the type of area I maintain, I would not give the rubbing issue a second thought. If you do, I would recommend a better support strap.
